The Black Dog Mystery, by Ellery Queen Jr. Queen is both the author pseudonym and main character of a series of mystery novels; the Jr name was used for several juvenile novels. This Black Dog 1st ed includes drawings by William Sanderson.

Born Wilhelm Tsiegelnitsky in Latvia, his family emigrated to New York in 1923 under the name Siegel. William studied fine art, design, and lithography. He was a political and commercial illustrator for books and magazines. William and his brother switched to “Sanderson” in 1941.

Sanderson served in the US Army in World War II, stationed at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. He lived in Denver the rest of his life, painting and teaching art. modernistwest.com/william-sander…
