Woohoo! I won! Here's my entry.
Everyone is winning, except me. Sounds like you know within a couple of hours. I haven't been contacted yet for my crappy little entry, so I may have to try again, if they'll let me; there are one-per-person restrictions in the rules. Heck, people are winning off of plagarized essays (winning by submitting the same essay as someone else who won).
The popular conjecture, based on common sense, is that they're trying to dump their old models and build their subscriber base.
news.com confirms the theory.
Oh yeah, by the way, you have to pay for the first month of the service to claim your prize. Only $10, so it's still a great deal, but you know how that goes.
Word also has it that these are going on eBay for close to their retail price, meaning a $250 mark-up for winners that don't want their TiVos.
I want mine, though. Even though I don't have cable, I'd love to have one. And they're highly hackable.
So, uh, if anyone wins one and doesn't want it, I might be interested in paying the $10 plus shipping. But I think I'll try to win one first.
